After two years of virtual events, Fiber Connect Latam returned to a face-to-face format in San José, Costa Rica on July 11 and 12.
Organized by the Fiber Broadband Association, LATAM Chapter, the event brought together more than 400 executives from various telecommunications service providers, government entities and regulators, manufacturers, and other members of the fiber optic community in the region.
The meeting began with a keynote speech by the Vice Minister of Telecommunications of Costa Rica, Orlando Vega, who presented the National Telecommunications Development Plan for the period 2022-2027.
The event included a trade fair, as well as various panels that allowed for a dialogue on the role of fiber optics in reducing the digital divide and promoting the development of the region, regulatory aspects, efficiency in network deployment, advances in convergence, and the importance of open access (neutral) networks.
SmC+ presented the results of its study: the FTTH Latam Panorama, which offered data on the growth of FTTH networks in the region and its socio-economic impacts in 2021. Other topics included the importance of fiber optics in 5G and IoT networks, migration from HFC networks to FTTH, and innovation for the delivery of new services.
During the event, ICE was recognized as the largest FBA Latam Operator in Costa Rica, while Liberty Latam received the FTTH FBA Latam Operator award.
Fiber Connect Latam—Costa Rica edition—was sponsored by leading companies in the market, including SENKO Advanced Components, ENSURE, EXFO, ARTIC LATAM, Jonard Tools, and PLP, among others. The next meeting will be in Bogotá, on November 8 and 9.
