Mexico’s CFE & Internet Para Todos announce US$555 Million USD plan to connect 200K free Internet Access Points

According to a statement issued on state-owned CFE’s website on December 16th, in the 2020-2024 Business Plan, CFE Telecomunicaciones and Internet Para Todos would invest 11,000 Million Pesos (555 Million USD) to bring the Internet to 200 thousand points free Internet access. The plan proposes to install Internet in Roads, Public Squares, Health Centers, Schools, and Community Spaces. A

Artís Espriú, detailed that some of CFE TEIT’s priority strategic purposes towards 2025 are:

  • Enable approximately 200 thousand free Internet access points.
  • Enable Internet and broadband services throughout the national territory to about 130 thousand locations.
  • Increase fiber optic deployment and infrastructure adaptation to have a large data transport capacity in 5 phases that cover the entire national territory. “
